Q. What’s an eligible list?
A. An eligible list is a list of candidates who successfully
completed a civil service examination. Successful candidates are ranked on the eligible
list in order of their final score in the examination. The examination is usually
consists of a written examination and an oral interview.
Q. How long will my name stay on the eligible list?
A. Open examinations state on
the examination announcement the length of time the eligible list will be active.
Open lists are generally active from 6 months to one year, and may be extended up
to a maximum of 4 years. Promotional eligible lists are valid for 2 years. However,
we recommend you contact the appropriate governmental agency for details concerning
how long their eligible lists are valid.
Q. When will the eligible list I am on expire?
A. Eligible lists are usually valid
for two years. However, governmental agencies’ eligible lists may vary. Therefore,
we recommend that you contact the appropriate governmental agency’s exam certification
section to determine how long your eligible list will be valid.
Q. I've completed the examination, now when will I get a job?
A. To fill a vacant
position, a respective agency will request a certification. A certification is a
list of candidates who are eligible to be considered for employment based on their
final examination score. The highest scoring candidates will be notified by mail
to contact the department and to advise the agency if they are interested in being
